2025 Countdown
100. Addison Rae – Fame is a Gun
A stylish reinvention that served as both a reference to hits past whilst also paving an identity of its own. I love the icy synths on this one.
99. Drake – Nokia
I’m the furthest thing from a Drake fan but Nokia felt like his most musically convincing hit in a while. It’s the rare song with a switch-up that not only works but kicks the song up to the next level, delivering one of the most addictive hooks of the year .
98. Laufey – Forget Me Not
A stunning symphonic effort from a personal favourite, Forget Me Not revels in a sense of subdued majesty before delivering an absolute stunner of a final chorus. I just wish this moment lasted abit longer.
97. Close Your Eyes – SOB (with Imanbek)
A pummelling EDM track that circumvents the usual pitfalls thanks to a sense of percussive depth and some killer electronic breakdowns.
96. Saja Boys (K-pop Demon Hunters) – Your Idol
Though its utter ubiquity may have actually harmed its longevity, the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack absolutely took over the latter half of the year. As such, while Your Idol may be quite formulaic, it’s hard to deny the strength of its killer hook and operatic backing.
95. Doja Cat – AAAHH MEN!
Bolstered by some really inspired synth work that strikes the perfect balance between menacing and enticing, AAAHH MEN! served as the perfect playground for Doja’s endlessly charismatic performance. There’s just so much personality on display here in the best way.
94. 2BYG – Karma
New Jack swing delivered at its crooning best supported by one of the strongest vocal performances of the year. And while the chorus is addictive, the verses and pre-chorus are where the real magic lie. This really should have been their breakout track.
93. ALLDAY PROJECT – Famous
One of the year’s most subtly addictive tracks, Famous succeeded thanks to a subversive song structure and cyclical repeated hook that worked wonderfully with its latin guitar infused dynamic percussive backing. Really wish they cut those last 20 seconds though.
92. Miley Cyrus – End of the World
Miley released an incredible album this year and while End of the World wasn’t its most emphatic or inventive moment, that euphoric centrepiece is just pop music at its very best.
91. RE:WIND – RE:SET
These guys seem to have had 50 cents and a dream when they set out to create this. And boy did it pay off. What a phenomenal interpolation of the NSYNC*/Backstreet Boys sound with an equally soaring chorus to suit.
